This week's WQA Radio podcast features an interview with WQA member Mike Mecca from Performance Water in California. We spoke on the floor of the WQA Convention in Orlando.

The discussion: The Connected Home. It's the convergence of the internet and water treatment products.

"There's a hundred things out there these days that are connected to the internet that feed you information," said Mecca. "Our water treatment equipment is becoming more sophisticated, and they put out a lot of information. So, if customers get to see on their smart phone what's going on, it adds value to it for Mr. and Mrs. Smith."

As an example, Mecca says that data showing an increase in water use at an off-peak time would tell the owner there's a possible leak.

"As long as customers are comfortable with the technology and with their dealer knowing how much water they're using, the benefits will far outweigh any concerns they might have," Mecca said.

WQA members should look at supplying this new technology to customers, Mecca said.
